If you want a good pet that loves being with you then it is hard to go past a staffordshire bull terrier. They make fantastic companions and are really popular in both the UK and USA. They are not the biggest dog in the world, but they are one of the strongest. In order to keep your pet from getting into trouble, you need to educate them right now. This article provides some tips to assist you with your staffordshire bull terrier training.
To start with, it is very important to get them into a routine to make them feel settled and secure, and also to get them used to going out on the end of a lead. With any hound, when you are training them, a routine is crucial.
You should try to follow the routine as much as achievable and this means that you must feed the dog at consistent hours during the day. In a similar vein, putting your dog to bed and walking them at the same times every day will bring the best results. If these are not followed, your dog could get a bit anxious and restless so this is just one tip that could get your dog to behave better around you.
While you are out with your staffy, as mentioned before, it is essential to have a leash and to always have a firm grip on it. Encouraging and developing serene behaviour is important when you are walking your dog as part of staffordshire bull terrier training, because they can easily escape and hurt themselves or perhaps cause hurt to another pet or human being.
If your staffy starts to misbehave whilst on the leash, say no firmly, get them to sit down, and then wait for them to become fairly still before you start walking again. If your dog does show signs of good behaviour, you can reinforce it by giving them a little treat.
If your staffy has not spent much time with other animals, it may need some socialisation education. Staffordshire bull terrier training should encompass teaching your dog not to confront other animals, and the best way to do this is to reassure them that their position is not under threat.
As with the lead training, reward good behaviour with a treat, and withhold rewards until you have your dog under control and it is doing the right thing. You will soon start to see your staffy’s behaviour improving and it will become much better still as it gets more and more rewards. It is also good to do this when your staffy is still a puppy so that it understands what is expected by you well into adulthood.
So staffy education from a youthful age really makes it a whole lot easier for both you and your hound. However, even if you have lost the chance to commence staffordshire bull terrier training while your dog is still a puppy, you can still achieve it without any huge trouble.
