The size of bulldogs is considered to be medium size although these dogs tend to be a bit heavier because of their stocky build. All these reasons contribute towards many people looking to find bulldog puppies by locating breeders throughout the country.
If searching for bulldog breeders, it is important to look for certain criteria. The first thing to consider in looking for a bulldog breeder is how their dogs are used in the breeding process. Inquire as to the process of mating and whether it is a live mating process or insemination. Also ask about the birth process and if the dam is allowed to give birth naturally or is a caesarean completed. The mating and birth delivery of bulldogs is fairly complicated and difficult. Therefore, it is important to ask potential bulldog breeders their views on the breeding process.
Another consideration is the amount of litters a female bulldog has had. Some bulldog breeders breed their dogs on a regular basis and these are called puppy mills. Puppy mills tend to produce lower quality puppies because not much care and time is taken in selecting a sire or allowing the female to recuperate from the previous litter. This can be harmful to bulldog puppies because it could even further exacerbate the health conditions they are already prone to.
Another thing to consider is the socialization of the puppies. Bulldog puppies should be socialized properly prior to being sold or placed up for adoption. This will require bulldog breeders to incorporate the puppy into their main household and allow the puppy to be around other dogs and humans. Therefore, it is recommended that bulldog breeders who place their puppies in kennels be avoided.
All bulldog puppies should be registered appropriately. When looking for bulldog breeders, ask the potential breeder about the registration process and papers that will come with the puppy. If the puppy does not come with proper papers, the breeder likely is not in the breeding process to produce high quality bulldogs. These breeders should be avoided.
Reputable bulldog breeders will also provide puppies which have been seen by a veterinarian. Their shots and vaccinations should be started and up to date.
