Looking back at history, since its conception, this breed has always been at the side of soldiers during battles and noblemen during hunting games.
It is said that the modern day Boxers descended from the massive breed of the Molossian Hound of ancient Greece. This breed, along with soldiers, has spread throughout Rome, Europe, and Britain during the wars. In the 1800′s, the breed branched out into other breeds with Brabanters- which became the modern day boxers- being the smallest of them.
Brabanters lived in castles and great manors when the great hunt and ancient wars were of existence. But along with the disappearance of these extravagant feats came the displacement of the Brabanters into butcher shops and theatre. From noblemen and military companions, the breed ventured its energy and stoic disposition in to cattle herding and acting.
The name Boxer, according to some, are either derived from the dog’s boxing-like hand gestures or its box-like head. What’s for sure, however, is the fact that it is the Germans who established and flourished this breed. In the year 1895, the first Boxer club was founded in Munich Germany and in 1903, the Boxer first came to the United States.
Tagged as the Ultimate People dog, the Boxer is definitely lovable. They are very friendly and sociable but are wary with strangers, fearless when they fight, playful and highly energetic. At times they are boisterous and stubborn and so obedience training must be implemented.
Even though Boxers can stand looking so big, strong, and dignified, they shouldn’t intimidate you. Their history in battles and hunting games are long gone and today, they are only affectionate and patient pets to humans especially children. They are surprisingly stoic that they can stand children’s poking, persistence, playfulness and unending energy.
Boxers are such easy to care of animals that you dont have to take care of them like a fashionable pet. They only need easy cleaning and brushing and theyre good as new. So if you need your pet to be sociable, a quick learner, and easily pleased, the boxer dog is the perfect one for you.
